Presentation abstract

In order to respond to the needs of a complex world, Tecnológico de Monterrey task is to develop the skills and aptitudes necessary to recover creative and critical thinking in our students. During the semester January-May 2015, Into the Woods was the play selected by the students theatre group of Prepa Tec. We decided to work with it in an interdisciplinary way involving all students(400 students). In Spanish classes, students read and had activities of the tales Rapunzel and Jack and the Magical Beans and in Languages classes with Red Riding Hood and Cinderella. Students researched about the authors, analyzed the historical context, the different types of text, literary elements, different versions of the stories, the role of girls and boys and new trends (Maleficent, Into the Woods ). Each teacher according to the language (English, French, German and Japanese) gave a multicultural emphasis. Different departments such as Science, Computer, and History also implemented activities encompassed with this project. Then we had a massive meeting (that we called Tec Talks) where a shadow theater was presented (showing scenes of the tales read) and it was a reflection of the different stories from different perspectives (historical, psychological, literary) of their characters and the tales in a multicultural world. Reading is an instrument of creativity, of invention of stories , of motivation. It allowed students to develop different skills of speaking and writing not only in Spanish but also in other languages. Students developed different values: Innovation (generating new ideas, breaking paradigms), global vision (living in a global culture) and collaborative work is encouraged.
