Presentation abstract
Every day, millions of images are generated using cellphone cameras and are disseminated through networks on visual platforms, the most popular of which is Instagram. By employing a theory of performativity, this study intends to provide a theoretical framework to connect the production of space to the production of image that occurs by Instagramming. First, it is argued that space is produced in a performative fashion through performing four categories of space acts. Then it is explained that how by Instagramming all the four categories of space acts are reduced and limited to the most passive category of space acts. Finally, it is demonstrated that how Instagramming can restrictively influence the production of social space.
