The present work aims to critically and descriptively analyze the scope and limits of the interculturality category in the curriculum redesign of higher education in Ecuador. Its legal basis is stated in the Constitution Art. 1 and 27, LOES Art. 5, 9, 13 and the Regulations of Academic Regime Art. 50, 52 and 54. To link the legal aspect with the university curriculum: First, I develop a theoretical approach of the interculturality category from several perspectives and emphasize critical interculturality as a project of decolonization and liberatory pedagogical practice. Second, the categories multinationality, multiculturality and interculturality are clarified. Third, interculturality is analyzed in social contexts, characterized by ethnic and cultural diversity that face highly asymmetric and unequal social, economic, cultural and political structures. Finally, I reflect on the curricular design in higher education and interculturality, to contribute to the reformulation of education and learning as a means to breaking cultural and State colonialism.
