Presentation abstract
Students’ writing habits have changed dramatically with the arrival of technology. Students can now make use of an endless amount of information to write their academic work. However, students need to be trained in order to find, choose, and use this information properly in their writing work as well as learn how to reference their sources. Digital scrapbooking strategies are actions used by students when they mobilise the three types of skills needed to produce a term paper from start to finish: informational, writing and referencing skills. Knowing how to properly use digital scrapbooking strategies can help students produce a creative and original paper. On the other hand, if students are not proficient with these strategies, it can lead to plagiarism. Our research examined the digital scrapbooking strategies used by students as well as the one taught by their professors. Questionnaires and interviews were used to collect data in six universities. Results show that students do make use of digital scrapbooking strategies but that professors do not necessarily teach their students how to use them efficiently. Specific strategies need to be developed very early, in conjunction with informational, writing and referencing skills so that students can learn how to prevent plagiarism when submitting their work.
