Presentation abstract

The use of online-based technologies such as eLearning tools provides teachers and learners opportunities for a more flexible teaching-learning environment based on individual learning preferences. This paper investigates on the learners’ perception on eLearning in terms of their learning styles. The data were gathered from 49 Foundation Math students to determine how their eLearning perception differs based on their learning style preference. The study revealed a moderate to very high perception on items related to the following features of eLearning: motivating, effective, active, collaborative, individualized and pleasant/attractive. The learning style instrument revealed that 43% of the students are visual learners, 32% are auditory and 25% are tactile learners. Overall, results revealed that students’ perception on eLearning does not significantly differ among the 3 group of learners. It appears that the e-learning addresses all the students’ learning styles and students’ learning style should be a consideration in the design, implementation, and evaluation of eLearning in the classroom. The findings of the study have provided future research directions on the relevance of learning styles in the instructional and curriculum design of eLearning environments.
