Presentation abstract
In today’s world, technology is inevitable in all areas including learning a foreign language. Educators need to benefit from the possibilities of technology in the classes. Technology provides learners with various opportunities for improving accuracy in all the skills as well as “presenting meaningful, interesting, and communicative activities” (Brett & Gonzáles-Lloret, 2009, p.353). Based on this fact, it is indispensable to take advantage of using Web 2.0 tools in the classroom, which enables the educators to transform their work and the way they support students in the classrooms. In my institute, a great deal of importance has been given to technology integration into education. Apart from lessons done in the classroom, students study in the labs by doing online exercises and lab tasks. Students have at least 8 lab tasks to be done in some weeks and each lab task includes a web 2.0 tool such as Edmodo, Canva, Google Forms, VoiceThread, Quizlet and Kahoot. To make the learning more visual, audial and engaging, web-based learning tools have been used for a long time. At this point, as a member of Technology Integration Unit, there is an interest in having some idea about students’ perceptions of these tools, whether they are beneficial or not in some points and which ones they think are more useful and meaningful. The present study aims to investigate the benefits and barriers of these tools and asks whether they really enhance their learning experience. 50 Pre-Intermediate students studying in the School of Foreign Languages were given a questionnaire and open-ended questions to try to learn their perceptions of the web-based learning tools by analyzing the data in Spss programme. The findings of the study will be discussed during the presentation.
