Lately great importance has been attached to digital literacy in every area. It is “the ability to use digital technologies at an adequate level for creation, communication, collaboration, and information search and evaluation in a digital society” and it involves “the development of knowledge and skills for using digital devices and tools for specific purposes (Son, 2015). Since it is inevitable to use digital resources for any piece of information needed, in digital environments, it is essential for people to develop necessary skills such as distinguishing between correct and incorrect data, using digital tools effectively, being practical and assuring self improvement in digital world. One of the areas that digital literacy is gaining more and more importance is language learning. Nowadays, thanks to abundant digital resources, language learning has stopped being a luxury to spend money on. Learners can easily get exposed to authentic areas and native speakers. Resources for different learning styles are also available. The purpose of this study is to examine ESL students’ level of digital literacy and raise awareness on the issue. To this end, the data were collected via a questionnaire. The participants of the study were 50 Turkish preparatory class students of different levels at a Turkish state university. The data from the research were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings are thought to be useful in raising awareness of digital literacy and teaching ESL students how to use digital resources more effectively.Reference: Son, J.-B. (2015). Digital literacy.
