Presentation abstract
There are differences in gender stereotyping [1], [2], that impact on working conditions, labour market, education, technological innovation and research. Some research has concluded that gender determines some attitudes towards the usage of ICT which are also cause of the low rate of women that are studying and working in tech jobs. These facts have led to many questions about the difficulties that women face to progress and advance in these professional areas. Initiatives to achieve social reforms are required with the support of legal and governmental frameworks. We analyze some of the existing research, reports and international actions to reduce the gender gap. Additionaly, we also study some of the existing indexes and indicators to assess the effectiveness of the goverment and public policies on this field across different countries. However, gender equality issues are determined by the context, and there is no an unique solution. European Union Gender Action Plan II Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment 2016-2020, UNICEF Gender Action Plan 2018-2021 and The United States national action plan on woman, peace and security and Horizon 2020 programme, which includes a goal of gender equality are only some of the current international initiatives. The improvement of the gender equality would also have a very positive effect on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita [3] and would boost the labour market. [1] Ellemers, N.
