Presentation abstract

A close perusal of the Global history of Trade, commerce and maritime activities reveals an interesting facets of history in the 21st century i.e  the challenge basically confronting us is  how to  transcend approaches based solely on local or national comparisons and move towards models that emphasize transnational connections or a comparative analysis on transnational  basis. The first instances of such argument was brought forward by Kenneth Pomeranz in his  most celebrated book “ The Great Divergence, China, Europe and the making of the modern world economy” where he advanced the reason for China and the northwestern Europe for taking a divergent economic  paths towards a modernity. Central to his argument are domestic coal and overseas colonies. Which was basically to challenge varieties of theories ranging from cultural and other social factors. This papers will make an attempt to answer the challenges in the 21st century for the rise of Asian economic power particularly China and India perusing from Asian historical experiences such as Inland trade through the “Silk Road” coined in 1877 by the German geologist Baron Ferdinand von Richthofen, to name the most enduring commercial network in Global history. The second section will provide the Maritime activities of China and India in the Indian Ocean and the Gulf dating back to the early 15th C.E.The end of colonialism that eventually mark the emergence of India and china from scratch to an emerging economy towards the end of cold war that is eventually a matter of wonder and marveled at by various thinkers and intellectual.
