Presentation abstract
In the past 5 years, 1371 women were murdered in Turkey. In the period of 2015-2018, deaths of 127 women were recorded as suspicious. A significant increase in male violence, is still far from discussion as a social issue in Turkey. In spite of the intensive studies and publications of NGOs and some alternative media organizations, media coverage of violence against women in the national media causes permanent reproduction of the masculine language. News language of the media that focuses on the woman as the victim allows the perpetrator to remain in the background and to reflect each occurrence of violence as an isolated case. This language, which prevents the definition of gender inequality as a social and political issue and the definition of women's murders as a social problem, also prevents social discussion and thus permanent solutions to the issue. In this study, women's murder news published in Sabah, Hürriyet and Posta newspapers, which are the three newspapers with the highest circulation in Turkey, between October 2018 and December 2018 will be analysed with discourse analysis method and it will be examined whether it contributes to the reproduction of masculine language.
