This presentation will introduce into the very meaning of exposition value in modern social interactions. Building on theories by Benjamin and Chul-Han, the presentation will argue that later modernity has created the conditions for the growth of exposition value and so a further popularisation of value. Nevertheless, there is a new element coming into play. We will present a reflection on images in social media which gain there value from those who look at them but also through the interaction that they create. Key to understand the new relation between the self and the always watching public is the production of authentic experiences and emotions. The presentation will dwelve into a reflection on the meaning of authenticity in later modernity, revise ideas of real and fake authenticity and introduce into the concept of emotionalising value.
