Assam, a Northeastern state in India, has a rich culture of Handlooms and Hand-woven Textiles. Each and every tribe has their individual distinctive style and design in weaving patterns and the motifs used in designing the fabric. It is found that the way a particular community constructs handloom designs denotes their faith, tradition and communication with the nature. They mostly use Silk fibre to create their textile, which they produce themselves. The colour and motifs used in a particular textile have different meanings associated with them. Some tribes used to create their story of life though weaving. The designs and the motifs used to convey different kind of messages related to their daily life. These representations were very integral part of Assamese culture and Heritage. The Designs and the type of Silk they used in the clothing represented their culture as well as social status. With the phase of time, the tradition took a drive towards the commercial handloom industry but still the designs are so unique that it symbolizes a particular culture. The motifs and the designs have its own visual identity and can be distinguished in crowd. The traditional textile of Assam holds a very significant role in keeping Cultural Heritage of this region alive.
