This paper seeks to explore Madhubani Painting as a realm of women artists where women are not the objects of study but are subjects along with relevance of narration as a vehicle for expressions of tradition, legends and fables.  An attempt has been made to analyse the dynamics of socio-cultural diversity exhibited through their artworks which are embedded with narrations.  It is significant to understand that what is transmitted is the understanding of women artists that is inbuilt into the paintings. Narratives remain an important source from which women artists draw insights. Madhubani painting is a dynamic tradition of Indian folk art, practiced in and around Madhubani village located in the Mithila region of eastern India. This art form is perhaps one of the earliest women-centric painting traditions. Women of Madhubani have inherited this art from their ancestors and its practice has transmitted through generations. These paintings are relevant as part of unfolding history by women that revitalize the social practice of traditions, religion and culture which reflect the identity of women.  Art endeavors by women artists are diverse in subject matter and innovative in visual form.  This art form is thus indigenous, creative and distinct from other form of art.  Madhubani Painting brings alive intergenerational narratives by women artists documenting the dynamics of diversity of the socio-cultural environment.  Weaving together their personal experiences with testimonies and narratives women artists capture the essentials of life through painting.
