In the presentation, I cross-exam two films, Babette’s Feast (Danish, 1987) and Glasses original title Megane (Japanese, 2007). I follow Babette and Sakura the protagonists in these films and explore how these characters from Babette’s Feast and Glasses act as a figure of Christ and a figure of Daoist master respectively. I explore the similarities and differences of these two figures and the visualization of Christian and Daoist world views in these films. I try to answer how different styles of communication, behavior patterns and different world views impact the visuals in films by analyzing numerous visual clues such as framing, composition, camera walk, color symbolisms, lights, Mise-en-Scène, and especially various visual references these films drew from.
