‘More lights and more space’- was the main principle of Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore’s thoughts on architecture.  As regards disciplinary approach, the investigations take an architectural perspective, revealing several ideologies and approaches of Tagore, based on historical context as well as personal philosophy. The paucity of Tagore’s direct references to his houses in his writings makes it imperative to rely on in-situ analyses and written allusions about space and architecture. Santiniketan can be divided into three major clusters of buildings: the teacher’s quarters and the student’s hostels; the institutional buildings and the Rabindranath Tagore’s many residences within the Uttarayana complex. their namenclature is is significant. Tagore’s own words sum up the intents in design and architecture most lucidly, ‘Construction versus Creation’ can shape each other.
