Since the ancient times jewellery has been used as a symbol of visual communication which expresses styles of fashion, identity, belonging, status, and ideology. In the successive periods of history, the materials used in the production of jewellery have changed and developed, and this has led to changes in designs of jewellery as expressions of cultural and symbolic meanings. In addition, it can also be observed that as a cultural indicator jewellery was also attributed protective meanings in societies throughout the history. In this study it is aimed to analyze the protective meanings attributed to the jewellery by the settled civilizations in Anatolian peninsula which has been a multicultural location throughout the history. Based on the assumption that the civilizations prevailing in certain geographies are influenced by each other in the cultural context, the Anatolian peninsula was chosen as an example of a multicultural history. The findings of the study which have been obtained by researching books written on the topic, academic studies and internet resources have been evaluated by employing descriptive method.  The result of the study confirms the hypothesis that the civilizations dating to the successive periods on the same geography are affected by each other in terms of the meanings attributed to the jewellery, in forms, as indicators of belief and as a means of expression.
