Abstract
In today's society, knowledge is generated and broadcast using multiple channels and codes that university students do not always master. The carried out research aims to know the shortcomings that these students present in the performance of communicative competence. In this article we present the starting situation in which future teachers of two Spanish universities, Jaén (149 students) and Oviedo (125 students), find themselves with respect to communicative competence. To do this, a questionnaire was developed and its results show significant differences between the students of both universities, especially in the socio-linguistic dimension.
